Importing Telecommunication equipment for personal use

Royal Oman Police Customs along with the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) has shared updated guidelines for importing telecommunication equipment for personal use.

Scope

Applicable for Mobile Handsets, Mobile Accessories and Wearable devices (Headsets including Air pods, Wireless Charger, Wearable devices such as Smart Watches etc.), Laptops and SMART TVs.
The maximum quantity allowed – 3 per equipment type.

Process

Any individual who wishes to import the above-mentioned items must provide a request with the following details via email to TRA ( email address ta@tra.gov.om ).

The following documents must be attached to the email.

  • Copy of ID card
  • Copy of Airway bill (Issued by the Postal / Courier Operator)
  • Copy of purchasing invoice

Once the email is submitted, TRA will review the information and will notify the customer as to whether the request is approved or rejected. If the request is approved, an RC Number will be provided with the approval.

At the time of clearance, the RC Number has to be uploaded by the Courier / Postal Operator in the Bayen System.

Import of other equipment

For the importation of other equipment including the following for personal use, customer has to follow an additional process.

  • Walkie Talkie
  • GPS Tracking Devices
  • Network Components such as routers
  • Satellite Communication Equipment

The importer has to apply for an Application of Release from Royal Oman Police Customs for personal use through the online portal of e-Type Approval

  • Click on TRA Portal: https://crm.tra.gov.om
  • Sign-up (Create new user account) if not registered previously.
  • After creating the account, “sign-in” with the username & password
  • Apply for release from customs for personal use and pay 15/- OMR. If the model is already approved, the RC Number will be provided.
  • If the model is not type-approved previously, the user shall apply for type approval application and provide the following documents:
    1. DoC: declaration of conformity
    2. RF test report
    3. EMC test report
    4. Safety test report
  • Note: At the time of clearance, the RC Number has to be uploaded by the Courier / Postal Operator in the Bayen System
  • Payment should done using a credit card, not debit card.

The application for release must be produced to Royal Oman Police Customs by the Postal / Courier Operator in order to obtain the release of the equipment. The equipment will be cleared under a separate Bill of Entry.
